The current Visit Greece app.

A digital tourism map of Greece that will provide useful destination-specific information to users is in the pipeline, announced Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni during the first Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) board meeting of the year earlier this week.

Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.

Outlining the tourism ministry’s marketing strategy for 2024, Kefalogianni said resilience funds had been secured for the digital transformation of the GNTO and for tools to be used for the promotion of Greece and its tourism products.

Key among these a digital tourism map which will showcase each region, city, island and town, the unique characteristics, landmarks, sites, activities and local food products.

Other actions slated for 2024 include upgraded training options for tourism professionals employed at the GNTO or at local tourism development organizations who will be responsible for updating the map.

Additionally, Kefalogianni said AI (artificial intelligence) would be used to develop a site out of the current visitgreece.gr and an app that will offer tourist information in real time.

EU and national funding will also be channeled into the enrichment and diversification of the tourism product as well as the promotion of special interest tourism offerings to new segments of the market.

In this direction, Kefalogianni said new online platforms (sites) would be created for the promotion of specific tourism products such as diving or mountain tourism. Additionally, targeted marketing actions will be designed for mountain and diving tourism and agritourism.
