Athens International Airport (AIA) welcomes new airlines to its roster this year while adding new destinations, including Shanghai, Ancona and Brest, and more flights to meet the growing demand.

The new airlines joining the AIA roster will contribute to establishing the country’s largest airport as strong hub in the region. AIA is currently in the process of being listed on the Athens Stock Exchange.

More specifically China’s privately-owned Juneyao Air, Norwegian low-cost and long-haul airline Norse Atlantic Airways, will be offering flights out of AIA.

Norse Atlantic Airways will offer flights to New York JFK up to five times a week as of May 30 to October 26.

Juneyao Air will be operating the Athens-Shanghai route three times a week starting in April. Shanghai is a new destination for Athens Airport.

Additionally, Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea will connect Athens Airport for the first time with Ancona (Italy) and Brest (France). The airline will also fly to Napoli (Italy) and to Split (Croatia) from Athens this year.

As of April, Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will be connecting Athens with Bari (Italy).

Czech low-cost carrier SmartWings will offer flights starting in May twice a week to Prague.

In June, British low-cost carrier easyJet will launch flights twice a week to Malaga and Palma de Majorca (Spain).

Airlines return to Athens

Poland’s national air carrier LOT will return to Athens this year with flights to Warsaw seven days a week all year round starting on April 11.

Additionally, following a 25-year hiatus, Kuwait Airways last year resumed direct services between Kuwait and Athens twice a week offering a free two-piece baggage policy. The airline’s services will continue this winter also.
