Analyzing the data from Google’s Destination Insights for the period of January 1-December 31, the company’s research team found Rome as the most searched for destination by the Greeks. Paris dropped one place from its 2022 ranking and was the third most searched destination following London that ranked second. The top 5 most searched for foreign cities by the Greeks includes Istanbul and Vienna. Milan came in sixth and Barcelona climbed to the 7th place from 9th in 2022. Budapest, Amsterdam and Dubai are the last three destinations in the Top 10, with each dropping one place compared to the previous year. New York was out of the Top 10, ranking 11th most searched for destination, followed by Prague, Berlin and Venice. According to the study, although the “competition” with London was high throughout the year, Rome remained the most searched for city for Greek travelers for most of 2023 due to its cultural wealth and architecture. The data was compiled and analyzed by the tourism marketing and research department of Tourix that aims to draw useful conclusions in relation to the tourism and travel industry.
