The flame’s arrival in the Greek capital was discussed on Thursday in a meeting between Athens Mayor Haris Doukas and Ambassador of France to Greece Laurence Auer. During the meeting, the city’s mayor highlighted the potential of organizing joint Greek-French additional cultural and athletic events on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the flame’s arrival in Athens. The Greek city’s mayor and the French ambassador agreed on promoting joint actions concerning issues of environmental awareness and the tourism promotion of Athens abroad. On the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, some 11,000 torchbearers will form a relay to celebrate the upcoming games in France. The Olympic flame will start its journey on April 16 from Olympia and cover over 5,000 kilometers in 41 municipalities of Greece. The torchbearers will be passing through some of Greece’s most important archaeological sites. Ten days later, the flame will arrive at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, where the modern Olympic Games were revived. Greece’s first torchbearer will be gold medalist Stefanos Douskos who will hand the torch to Giannis Fountoulis. He will then give it to Spyros Capralos. In total, some 600 torchbearers will participate in the relay. The torch from Athens will sail across the Mediterranean Sea to Marseille on May 8. The flame will be carried on a ship named Belem and then travel across 65 French territories for 68 days. The Olympic flame will arrive in Paris for the Olympic Games 2024 opening ceremony on July 26. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will wrap up on August 11.
