US carrier United Airlines on Thursday announced a new daily nonstop seasonal service between Athens International Airport (AIA) and its hub at Chicago O’Hare, starting May 24, subject to government approval.

The new flight from Athens to Chicago O’Hare builds on United’s existing services from Greece, which will start earlier this summer: daily seasonal service from Athens to New York/Newark, beginning March 31 and Washington Dulles, beginning April 15.

With the introduction of the new Athens-Chicago flight, United is increasing flights from Greece by nearly 25 percent for 2024.

United’s new seasonal service from Athens to Chicago O’Hare will be operated with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft featuring 28 United PolarisSM business class lie-flat seats, 21 United Premium PlusSM premium economy seats, 36 Economy PlusSM seats and 158 standard economy seats.

“We are excited to announce this further expansion of our route network from Greece to the U.S. with new summer seasonal service between Athens and Chicago O’Hare,” said Marcel Fuchs, United’s Managing Director International Sales.

United has been serving Greece with summer seasonal flights since 2016.

“This new service, coupled with the earlier start of our services from Athens to New York/Newark and Washington Dulles, means our customers in Greece can benefit from even greater travel choice and the possibility to connect via our U.S. hubs to 114 destinations across the Americas.”

The airline’s 2024 summer schedule also includes new services from Faro to New York/Newark, Barcelona to San Francisco, the resumption of its seasonal Reykjavik-New York/Newark service, as well as additional flights from Rome and Brussels.

Our return trip from Chicago to Athens via Germany was transferred to United in January due to severe weather. We will be United customers from here on because of their efficient and comfortable service. Year round direct flights between Chicago and Athens is the dream of our family. Please consider expanding your schedule.
