The connection between Sharjah and Athens will debut on June 28 with a frequency of 4 weekly non-stop flights. Sharjah, the capital of the eponymous Emirate, is a new destination for Athens International Airport (AIA). Sharjah is the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Commenting on the announcement of the direct Athens – Sharjah connection, AIA Director of Communications & Marketing Ioanna Papadopoulou referred to a “very important development” for both the airport and the Greek market. “This development significantly enhances connectivity between the two destinations, shaping the environment for the increase of tourist flows and strengthening of economic relations,” Papadopoulou said. Photo © acephotography/Athanassios Anagnostopoulos / Athens International Airport Flight Schedule Flight G9 684 will depart from Sharjah to Athens on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 09:00, with arrival at 13:05 local time. The return journey from Athens will take off on flight G9 685 on the same days at 13:55 local time, reaching Sharjah at 19:50. The new route will operate on an Airbus A320. According to a company announcement, with this latest addition to Air Arabia’s expanding network, the airline aims to facilitate increased accessibility for both business and leisure travelers, fostering economic and cultural ties between the UAE and Greece. “The launch of Air Arabia’s flights to Athens reflects our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with seamless connectivity between the two cities while offering an accessible and affordable travel options,” Air Arabia Group Chief Executive Officer Adel Al Ali said. Air Arabia operates a fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 neo-LR aircraft, the most modern and best-selling single aisle aircraft in the world.
