Attica is the largest of Greece’s 13 regions and includes Athens, Piraeus, the Athenian Riviera and the islands of Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses, among others. Hardalias said the regional authority would be drawing up a strategic plan to promote the region worldwide. According to the ANA-MPA, the two-pronged plan will be implemented in the next five years and will focus on enhancing brand Athens through its cultural offerings and products. The second part of the action plan will focus on improving the daily living conditions for residents and visitors through key infrastructure and road network upgrades, heightening safety, and protecting the natural habitat. The regional authority is also examining the possibility of cooperation with other cities and targeted communication campaigns in local markets. “We are opening new paths. We will be at the frontline of the national tourism policy,” said Hardalias. Late last year, the Region of Attica released a new tourism promo video titled “Attica. Yes!”, showcasing the region’s culture, history, natural beauty, and diverse experiences; popular tourist attractions such as the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, the Temple of Poseidon, and the beaches of the Saronic Gulf; as well as Attica’s vibrant nightlife, cuisine, and cultural events. The region’s strategy so far has focused on promoting Attica’s emerging tourism segments, key of which are ecotourism, health and wellness, and sports tourism.
