According to the Region of Central Greece, the upgrading of the infrastructure aims to promote the gorge as an important alternative tourism attraction of natural beauty and enrich the destination’s tourism product. “The project significantly upgrades an already exciting tourism destination and improves the experience for visitors,” Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos said. The upgrades to the facilities, which also include the addition of a stone fountain and a parking area, were part of the “Environmental regeneration in the ‘Always Raining’ area” project under a a budget of 240,000 euros. The upgrades to the visitor facilities include: – a leisure space in the plane tree forest, with a refreshment area, restrooms and a visitor information kiosk – the suspension bridge was repaired and the surrounding paths were cleared – view areas for visitors were created near the Stournara settlement and at the iron bridge near Roska village – necessary fences were put up and signage was added where needed. Photo source: Central Greece Region According to Aris Tasios, deputy regional governor of Central Greece, by investing in alternative tourism infrastructure , the Region manages to maintain the quality of the natural environment and provide basic comforts to visitors. “The creation of alternative tourism infrastructure in the region is the basis to enrich our tourism product and develop our tourism sector, which creates both direct and indirect job positions,” Tasios said. The “Always Raining” gorge is eighty meters long and located between Kaliakouda and Platanaki mountains and near the villages Roska and Stournara. The river Krikelopotamos runs through the gorge and is accessible only 4 months of the year. It has been given the name “Always Raining” from the water that falls along it as rain throughout the year from springs located on the tops of the cliffs.
