Heraklion International Airport “Nikos Kazantzakis” on Crete will close next week for five days in order for necessary infrastructure upgrade works to take place on its runways, according to an aviation directive (NOTAM) issued by Hellenic Aviation Service Provider (ΗASP).

The upgrade works will take place on the airport’s both landing and takeoff runways from Monday, February 19, at 10:30 am until Saturday, February 24, at 3pm.

According to the aviation directive, the upgrades will further strengthen the airport’s level of security.

“The upgrading of the runway surface in combination with the replacement of air conditioning units at ‘Nikos Kazantzakis’ will also improve the level of service to passengers,” the directive reads.

During the airport’s upgrade works, only air transport by helicopters will be carried out, if required.

Greek carriers AEGEAN and SKY express have announced changes to their flight schedules to and from Heraklion Airport during February 19-24. Press here for further information.
