Greece’s Central Council of Architecture approved this week the architectural plans submitted by real estate firm Gnosis Investments for the implementation of a 30-million-euro hotel investment in Plaka the center of Athens. Under the agreement, Gnosis Investments can now proceed with the new 112-room Radisson RED Mitropoleos Square Athens, the group’s first Radisson RED property in Greece, but will be required to restore and preserve the landmark building’s interior and exterior designs as well as the attached landmark buildings on Mitropoleos and Ypatias sts which belong to Metropolis 31 SA and Golden Horizon Athens Investments One. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. However, Gnosis Investments’ initial plans, which included the creation of 94 serviced apartments, spurred the reaction of local hotel and hospitality associations and were scrapped. Radisson has also announced the opening of another hotel on Theatrou Square, which will then bring the number of its hotels in the Greek capital to four.
