The Greek island of Samos is a top retirement destination for British citizens, according to the Daily Express UK.

A recent article of the British media, highlights the Greek island’s “charming” seaside resorts, “delicious” local cuisine, “charming” fishing villages, and uncrowded historic sites.

According to the Daily Express, Samos’ beaches win over British retirees as it is “perfect for going on walks along—staying active is an important part of old age,” and being equipped with deck chairs and cocktail bars can satisfy even the most demanding guests.

The rich cultural heritage of Samos is another reason for elder travelers to visit the island. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Temple of Hera, where it is believed the goddess was born, is sure to impress travelers. There they can learn that the goddess is considered the patroness of marriage and protects women from harm during childbirth.

In addition, the article highlights the ancient city of Pythagorion with its preserved fortification walls and mansions with mosaic floors; parts of the ancient harbor; and restored ancient theater.

On the north side of the island, Potami Gorge stands out due to its exceptional natural features. From there, the passengers can walk through a path to a Byzantine church and swim into the river to a waterfall.

Concluding, the article suggests Samos as “a wonderful place to retire” adding that retirees “can feast on a wonderful Mediterranean diet”, believed to be one of the most important to help people stay healthy.
