Photo source: Athens Municipality In 100 days, Athens will be hosting the UEFA Europa Conference League 2024 final at the AEK Arena Stadium, announced Athens Mayor Haris Doukas, inviting city residents to be part of the grand sports celebration. Addressing a press conference at City Hall, Doukas welcomed Deputy Sports Minister Yiannis Vroutsis, the President of the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO), Panagiotis Baltakos, and the Mayor of Nea Filadelphia – Nea Halkidona Ioannis Tombouloglou. “The UEFA Europa Conference League Final is an opportunity to showcase Athens globally, to promote our rich cultural heritage, strengthen our tourism industry and confirm our capacity and desire to host world-class events, sustainable and accessible to all,” said Doukas, adding that dozens of parallel events will be held across the Greek capital as part of the municipality’s efforts to establish the city as a leading sports destination all year round. Photo source: Athens Municipality Commenting on the news, Vroutsis said it was a “great achievement” for Athens and Greece to be hosting the prestigious sporting event this year. “Greece is making it loud and clear that it is back and can again organize major sporting events. Athens, Nea Filadelphia together with London (Wembley, Champions League) and Dublin (Ireland, Europa League) will be in the spotlight of the football world in May,” he added. The 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League season is set to conclude at the AEK Arena in Athens on Wednesday, May 29. The stadium, the headquarters of football team AEK, opened in September 2022 and can host more than 30,000 spectators.
