In comments to Romanian media, HTO President Grigoris Tasios said tourist demand for the region and Halkidiki was strong thanks to ongoing promotional efforts. He went on to add that Halkidiki is a favorite destination particularly for Romanian tourists arriving by road, and added that expectations were high for the upcoming tourism season. “As of March 31, air arrival procedures will become easier for our friends from Romania after the EU’s 27 member states unanimously agreed to lift controls on air and sea borders of Bulgaria and Romania,” said Tasios. According to the EU’s decision, from 31 March 2024, there will no longer be checks on persons at EU internal air and maritime borders between Bulgaria and Romania and the other countries in the Schengen area.
