The board of the hoteliers’ association also met with Romanian tourism stakeholders to discuss route alternatives in view of construction of the Thessaloniki Flyover which is expected to lead to long delays and traffic disruptions. In this direction, Tsitlakidis said affected municipal authorities had agreed to suggest the Nea Anchialos Airport as an alternative for tourists to the region. “It is of utmost importance to utilize and develop the Nea Anchialos Airport as works on the Flyover will last for at least four to five years,” said Tsitlakidis, who is also vice president of the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation, adding that the airport is in close proximity, easily accessible via the national highway, and can handle increased flights. Organized by Romexpo, the Romanian Tourism Fair was held in the Bucharest Exhibition Center during February 15-18 and gave Romanian and foreign companies the opportunity to present their tourism offers in a professional and lively atmosphere, favorable for networking and interaction.
