Alexandroupolis Can Be Model for Sustainable Tourism, Says Ministry

Greek Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Myron Flouris invited tourism stakeholders in Alexandroupolis and the wider East Macedonia & Thrace region to table tourism development plans for assessment.

Addressing the 2nd East Macedonia & Thrace Forum held this week in Alexandroupolis and organized by City Hub Events, Flouris said the region had vast potential and could evolve into a model for sustainable tourism development attracting key investments primarily in special interest and nature tourism. Flouris went on to add that the ministry was open to proposals in this direction.

Participating in the same panel discussion, Konstantinos Palakidis, owner & CEO of Ramada Plaza Thraki, said that in order to develop tourism activity in Alexandroupolis and the region key priorities included enabling the approach of cruise ships, developing a marina, and accelerating the implementation of other key infrastructure projects.

Lastly, he said designating the Evros region as an UNESCO Geo park would contribute to building an adventure and nature tourism profile for the destination.
