Greece’s Regional Airports Continue to ‘Fly High’ in February

Greece’s 14 regional airports under Fraport management after a high performance in January welcomed 636,866 passengers in February, representing a rise of 13.9 percent compared to the same month a year ago.

According to figures released by Fraport Greece, domestic traffic in the second month of the year was up 15 percent compared to 2023, with international traffic also on an upward trend by 12.1 percent compared to 2023.

The airports of Aktion (212 percent) and Corfu (114 percent) recorded a three-digit increase, while the smallest percentage difference compared to last year was recorded by the airports of Samos at 1.9 percent and Kavala at 2.8 percent.

The majority of international flights came from Germany, Cyprus, Italy, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

January-February passenger traffic over 1.27 million 

Total passenger traffic at the 14 regional airports during the first two months of the year reached 1.27 million against 1.15 million in 2023, representing an increase of 10.6 percent.

International traffic saw a higher percentage increase at 11.1 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2023.

Only the airport of Samos saw a slight drop (0.6 percent) in passenger traffic while the 13 other airports recorded an increase, with those in Aktion (71 percent) and Corfu (52 percent) seeing the largest growth. In absolute numbers, the airports in Thessaloniki, Chania and Rhodes once again were in the lead regarding passenger traffic.

Flights

In terms of flights the number of routes operated in the first two months showed an increase of 9.5 percent, with international flights up by 11.5 percent and domestic flights by 8.8 percent compared to January-February last year.
