Greece is the top summer holiday pick this year for Austrian travelers, according to data collected by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) during this year’s Ferien-Messe Wien 2024 travel fair held in Vienna, earlier this month. The four-day show welcomed some 450 exhibitors from 36 countries and 72,710 visitors. According to feedback gathered during meetings between the GNTO Austrian branch and representatives from TUI, Dertour, Springer Reisen, and Ideal Tours, favorite destinations in Greece for Austrian travelers are Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Karpathos, Corfu, and Halkidiki. TUI said that it had already covered 70 percent of its offer for 2024. Demand is supported by an increase in flights to Greek destinations by Austrian Airlines. Austria’s national carrier launched routes this week to 21 destinations in Greece. Bookings for Athens are up by 20 percent. In order to meet the demand for Mykonos, the airline will carry out four flights per week while adding new destinations such as Skyros, Limnos, Volos, Lesvos and Chios. According to data collected at Ferien-Messe Wien 2024, the trend this year for Austrian travelers is sea and sun and family travel. Sustainable practices are expected to affect traveler decisions with market insiders noting that this will lead to many tour operators and tourism businesses to change their strategies. Greece was also a popular choice for Austrian tourists last autumn.
