Athens City Festival: Over 250 Events Including Concerts, Parties, Walking Tours

The Municipality of Athens’ 3rd “This is Athens – City Festival” will kick off in May with a rich program including more than 250 events and highlighting a number of landmark locations in Athens.

With a focus on sustainability, the festival will launch on May 1 and includes concerts, street parties, guided walking tours, sports events, gastronomy events, activities organized by museums and cultural venues, as well as events inspired by the Easter holiday.

Organized by the Athens Development and Destination Management Agency (ADDMA), the festival will see the participation of local businesses, collective bodies and foundations active in the field of culture.

“Athens will be on the minds of both residents and visitors, and we look forward to welcoming everyone to our fantastic urban spaces and high-quality events,” said ADDMA CEO Ioannis Georgizas.

The program of this year’s festival, among others, will include:

–  Athens Urban Picnic, at Akadimia Platonos (Plato’s Academy), May 1: The picnic will inaugurate the festival with live music, DJ sets from the producers of the radio stations HiT 88.9, En Lefko 87.7 and RED 96.3, educational workshops, kite shows, music and theatre performances and screenings.

– Family and the City, Kypseli Municipal Market, May 12: On the occasion of the International Mother’s Day, This is Athens – City Festival will organize an all-day celebration with creative activities and games for children and parents.

– Street Outdoors Party, Koumoundourou Square, May 12: The team of Street Outdoors will transform one of the most beautiful Athenian squares, Koumoundourou Square, into a unique, outdoor club.

– Piano City Festival, Amerikis Square, May 17: The Piano City will participates for another year in the big festival hosting more than 100 concerts. Renowned artists, rising talents and piano students will be at the heart of the event ready to entertain residents and visitors of Athens.

– Spinning Sessions, Kypseli Municipal Market, May 17: On the same day another part of the city will be transform into a unique spinning club with impressive lighting, DJs, dance songs, rhythm, but also intense exercise and wellness full of positive energy.

– Flare the Square: skateboarding contest, Kotzia Square, May 18: A high level skateboarding tournament with the participation of professional and amateur athletes. The square of the Athens City Hall will be transformed into a “skate playground”, offering an amazing spectacle accompanied by concerts, DJ sets and street food.

– The Feast of Athens, Akadimia Platonos Park (Plato’s Academy Park), May 19: Music and songs from every corner of the country will be played in a festival with folk instrumentalists that will offer an experience full of music, dance and tradition.

– The journey of the serenade (cantada), from the Ionian Islands to Athens, a musical walk with serenades, in the alleys of Plaka, May 23: The musical group of the contemporary troubadours, the Karaviotis brothers, will sing emblematic serenades in the heart of the Greek Capital. At the end of the walk, the band will end up at the Museum of Greek Folk Musical Instruments “Phoebus Anogyianakis” – Center of Ethnomusicology for a small concert.

– La Saramuya Fiesta, Amerikis Square, May 26: La Saramuya is a handmade, colorful sound system, a symbol of Latin American entertainment. This Is Athens – City Festival will bring La Saramuya to Athens, to play salsa, cumbia, mambo and many more Latin rhythms, creating an evening fiesta.

– Food and wine experience with a guided tour of the National Gallery, May 29: A guided tour of some of the most important exhibits of the National Gallery, ending with a tasteful menu paired with selected wine labels.

– Victoria Square Party, Victoria Square, May 31: Reverb, a promoter of the city’s contemporary alternative culture, will participate in this year’s festival with a wild party with music selections of well-known DJs.

– Attiko Alsos Sunset Street Party, Tourkovounia Hill, June 1: Attiko Alsos Sunset Street Party promises a unique experience with a view of the sunset, while the group “11 Athens” will get participants up and dancing under the Attica sky.

– Athens All Star Party, Lycabettus parking lot, June 2: Athens’ biggest promoters join forces to create one of the highlights of This is Athens City Festival 2024, at the Lycabettus parking lot, transforming Lycabettus hill into a dance floor.
