Photo source: Andronis Hotel. The Greek island of Santorini in the Cyclades is one of the Best Honeymoon Destinations in the world, according to recent research conducted by Slingo. Slingo’s couples’ holiday index reveals the best honeymoon destinations as well as the most searched destinations, popular honeymoon spots, and areas boasting numerous romantic restaurants. The team of experts examined various factors and the results assigned each destination an overall score for couples’ holidays. Considering factors such as affordability and romantic dining options, Santorini ranked 2nd on the list with a solid score of 6.83 out of 10. Among other destinations on the list, Bali tops the charts for couples’ holidays, scoring 8.07 out of 10 and boasting 278,100 Google searches for honeymoons in the past year. Cancun came in third, followed by Venice (4th), Mallorca (5th), Paris (6th), Dubai (7th), Positano (8th), Rome (9th), and Marrakech (10th). Additionally, Santorini is listed as the fourth most searched honeymoon destination worldwide, with 120,600 Google searches, and 49 percent of its restaurants are romantic. The island ranks highly for honeymoon spots and is popular on social media platforms, with millions of posts referring to it. However, it’s noted for its high dining costs, averaging 82.67 euros for a three-course meal for two. Meanwhile, Mykonos is also fifth on the list of destinations with the most romantic restaurants. According to Slingo, 48 percent of the Greek island’s restaurants are romantic. “Those interested in history will appreciate Santorini’s rich heritage, shown in museums and archaeological sites. At the same time, adventurous couples can enjoy activities like horseback riding, scuba diving, and jet skiing along its beautiful beaches,” writes Slingo, highlighting the variety of activities for all types of couples. The Greek island was also named the Top Honeymoon Hotspot for 2023/2024, according to luggage storage and package acceptance company Bounce, while Tripadvisor reviewers placed Santorini among the world’s best destinations for travel in 2024.
