The new municipal authority of Mylopotamos on Crete recently announced its aim to transform the area into a destination that meets the needs of modern travelers but also preserve its history and traditions.

Mylopotamos Mayor Yiorgos Klados and members of the local tourism committee recently met with Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni and presented their proposals for the area’s tourism development.

During the meeting, the mayor presented a number of innovative solutions to boost tourism in the area, focusing on the importance of developing natural and cultural wealth. The proposals included the creation of diving parks, the development of hiking trails and the promotion of intangible heritage.

On her part, Minister Kefalogianni highlighted the need of closer cooperation between the ministry and the local stakeholders of Mylopotamos in order to promote sustainable and high-quality tourism.

According to an announcement by the municipality, the local authority will meet Kefalogianni again at the ministry in Athens to discuss pending issues in more detail.

Attendees at the meeting included Mylopotamos Deputy Mayor for Tourism and Culture Zacharias Ladianos and Mylopotamos Tourism Committee President George Maravelakis.

Located in the regional division of Rethymno, Mylopotamos a few years ago was included in a digital campaign by Marketing Greece that promoted Crete’s tourism products.
