China’s Juneyao Air and Greek carrier AEGEAN have launched a codeshare agreement connecting their networks.

The announcement follows the recent launch of Juneyao Air’s direct route between Shanghai and Athens.

The codeshare partnership will allow passengers of both airlines to benefit from increased connectivity while establishing Athens as a gateway between Asia and Europe.

Juneyao Air increases the European destinations of its network with the addition of Athens from Shanghai and provides passengers with a convenient and seamless booking experience to popular destinations of AEGEAN’s international network in five countries, such as Helsinki, Milan, Rome, Naples, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Nice and Marseille.

“We are confident about the future of Juneyao Air in the European market,” said the airline’s chairman, Wang Junjin, adding that the partnership is an essential step in Juneyao Air’s sustainable internationalization strategy.

Through the codeshare partnership, AEGEAN will further increase its international network options to passengers. The new codeshare flight between Athens and Shanghai, will see AEGEAN present for the first time in China’s market.

“We remain focused on our commitment to join forces with industry leaders to meet our passengers’ increased needs for enhanced travel options and opportunities to discover new destinations,” said Roland Jaggi, Chief Commercial Officer of AEGEAN.

Codeshare flights are expected to commence on May 1 and will be available for booking as of middle of April through the airline’s websites or via travel agencies.

In the coming months Juneyao Air and AEGEAN will further increase their joint codeshare network to include other popular Greek destinations.

An interline cooperation between Juneyao Air, the first Connecting Partner of Star Alliance, and AEGEAN, a member of Star Alliance, has already been established, offering passengers access to several Greek domestic destinations via Athens.

Juneyao Air plans to further expand the codeshare cooperation with AEGEAN in the future and add frequent flyer benefits.
