Under this year’s theme “An Ocean of Potential”, the conference will focus on six areas of action: promoting marine protected areas, fostering a sustainable blue economy, addressing the climate crisis, supporting maritime security, advancing sustainable fisheries, and combating marine pollution. Greece will also bring into the spotlight the need for a new balance between economic development, green shipping, sustainable tourism in coastal areas and islands, ways to reduce marine plastic and microplastic pollution, and the acceleration of the green transition in the Mediterranean. The event will also include the “Waves of Cinema: A Festival of Oceanic Films” to run from April 15 to April 17. The “Our Ocean Youth Leadership Summit” aiming to empower young leaders with experience and knowledge in the field of marine protection and to help them expand their network, will be co-hosted with the support of the Sustainable Ocean Alliance on April 15. The OOC was launched in 2014 as a US initiative to raise awareness about the serious threats facing the world’s oceans and to initiate actions that will protect marine environments.
