Photo © Greek Travel Pages Passenger traffic at all 39 airports in Greece during January-March increased by 14.4 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority – HCAA / Hellenic Aviation Service Provider-ΗASP. Greece’s airports include Athens International Airport (AIA), the 24 regional airports managed by the HCAA/HASP and the 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece. More specifically, the total number of passengers in the first quarter of 2024 reached 7,876,353, compared to 6,884,904 passengers in the first three months of 2023. In terms of flights (arrivals and departures of domestic and international aircraft), the data showed that January-March saw 70,271 flights, up by 7.8 percent compared to 2023 (65,211 flights). In March alone, the 24 regional airports managed by the HCAA/HASP saw a 17 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to the corresponding period of 2023. According to the data, the total number of passengers traveling (international and domestic arrivals and departures) reached 243,314 this year, compared to 207,928 passengers in March 2023. Performance of Athens Airport, 14 regional airports During March 2024, passenger traffic at Athens International Airport (AIA) increased by 20.1 percent to 2 million passengers, compared to 2023. Overall, during the first three months of 2024, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 5.2 million passengers, an increase of 16.5 percent from 2023. Greece’s 14 regional airports under Fraport management handled 820,000 arrivals in March, a 12.2 percent increase over the same month a year ago. In the first quarter of the year, traffic through the 14 airports increased by 11.2 percent to 2.09 million passengers compared to 1.88 million in Q1 2023.
