Greek carrier SKY express on Monday said that is has strengthened its fleet by 17 percent and now flies to Greek and European destinations with brand new aircraft.

“With an average age of 1.6 years for ATR72-600 type aircraft and 3.1 years for Airbusneo, SKY express retains the privilege of being the youngest fleet in Greece and one of the most environmentally friendly in Europe,” the airline’s management said in a company announcement.

According to management, the company’s growth is reflected in the increase in the number of aircraft which now stands at 27 – a growth rate of 17 percent for 2024.

More specifically, the company’s fleet includes two Α321neo aircraft, ten A320neo, one Α320ceo, ten ΑΤΡ72-600 and four ATR2-500.

Fleet with CFM LEAP-1A engine

The Airbus fleet of SKY express is powered by CFM LEAP-1A engine.

“This is a strategic choice and investment of the company, as this type of engine is associated with proven reliability and competitive advantages in its category,” management said.

The advanced CFM LEAP engine family provides 15 to 20 percent less fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions, 50 percent lower NOx emissions as well as a significant improvement in noise (50 percent smaller footprint) compared to previous generation engines.

Moreover, the ATR fleet of SKY express has been renewed with its latest ATR 72-600 (SX-TFI) added in April.

“Travelers on our domestic network of 33 Greek destinations will be traveling in a brand new plane… Our ATR aircraft provide flexibility at regional airports with 45 percent less fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to regional jets,” the company said.

SKY express this year plans to boost capacity by up to 11 percent for popular Greek destinations.
