The airport of Samos was ranked the best by travelers visiting Greece and Heraklion Airport the worst in 2023, according to a study released this week by tourism marketing firm Tourix.

The study assessed 30,800 Google user reviews of airports in Greece with the largest passenger traffic last year (handling more than 250,000 passengers). Factors taken into consideration included passenger experience, cleanliness, accessibility, and overall customer satisfaction.

The Top 5 airports which received the best rating were those of Samos with an overall score of 4.46 out of 5, Mytilini (4.45), Thessaloniki and Kavala (4.39) and Athens International Airport (4.25).

The Greek airport that failed to meet the mark again in 2023 and dropping from 2022 was in Heraklion, Crete, dropping to a score of 2.43 out of 5 from 2.69 a year earlier.

Poor ratings were also given to the airports of Chios (3.07), Kalamata (3.08), Mykonos (3.32), and Paros (3.36).

Meanwhile, the airports of Karpathos, Paros, Kefalonia and Lesvos recorded the largest positive annual percentage change in 2023 over 2022 while those of Kalamata, Chios, Heraklion, and Skiathos reported the largest year-on-year negative percentage change in their score. Compared to 2022, Athens Airport moved out of first place as the top performer due to a drop from 4.35 in 2022 to 4.26 last year.

In 2022, the best performer was Nea Achialos Airport with a score of 4.5 and Heraklion Airport with 2.7 – the lowest overall score of that year.
