Photo source: Fraport Greece Over 1,000 passengers who arrived on Corfu on eight international flights to Corfu Airport “Ioannis Kapodistrias” on Holy Monday got a taste of the unique experience of Corfiot Easter. Held by the airport’s operator, Fraport Greece, the initiative aimed to highlight the tourist destination at a special moment, as events related to Easter celebrations are underway. Inspired by local Easter customs, passengers were greeted by the sounds of the local philharmonic orchestra, while they had the opportunity to taste traditional delicacies from local producers and to be introduced to the custom of the Easter pots, which they received at the end as a souvenir. Photo source: Fraport Greece The event aimed to provide travelers with a deeper understanding of Corfu’s rich cultural heritage and prepare them for the experiences they will have throughout their stay on the island. Local government representatives from the Ionian Islands Region, the Municipality of Central Corfu, as well as the Corfu Hoteliers Association, were also present. Photo source: Fraport Greece Welcoming Fraport Greece’s initiative, Ionian Islands Regional Governor Giannis Trepeklis said that such actions can be repeated two or three times a year, so that visitors can immediately witness the customs, traditions, gastronomy, history, and culture of the island complex. “The Ionian Islands have established their position in the international tourism competition as a destination that offers safety, quality, and high-quality services, at a moment when private initiative has raised the bar in recent years,” he said, adding that similar similar moves are needed by the government, municipalities and regional authorities in the field of public infrastructure, “so that the Ionian Islands continue to guarantee a safe and enjoyable experience for all their visitors”.
