Similar to treasure hunting, geocaching is an outdoor sport that has been steadily gaining popularity in recent years. It offers adventure and excitement while prompting participants to explore the surrounding area. In April, the GNTO’s branch in Germany hosted the press trip, which welcomed Christian Gallus, publisher of “Geocaching” magazine, along with his photographer. Gallus’ main aim during the trip was to explore the island, uncover its prime locations for the activity, and then craft a 10-page article promoting Corfu as an “outstanding destination for geocaching holidays”. Thε article is slated for publication in the July issue of the German magazine. Christian Gallus during his tour of the island of Corfu. Moreover, it counts 16,000 newsletter subscribers and boasts a social media following exceeding 31,000. Geocaching is a popular hobby in Germany, with nearly 500,000 Germans aged between 35 and 55 actively participating in it. According to the GNTO, these individuals typically have a high monthly income, enjoy frequent trips to nature, and are tech-savvy, often incorporating their hobby into their vacations. Geocaching: How to do It Photo source: Geocaching.com During the activity, geocachers search for hidden objects, known as caches, using GPS devices or smartphone applications and following specific coordinates provided on a dedicated platform. To locate the caches, participants must solve puzzles, follow clues, and explore the surrounding area. Caches often contain logbooks for participants to sign, along with small items for trading.
