Deputy Mayor Kostis Limperiou recently emphasized the municipality’s intention to implement initiatives promoting wedding tourism, aiming to prolong the tourist season. He highlighted that in addition to extending the season, wedding tourism would enrich the local tourist offerings, providing a distinct tourist experience year-round. Recently, Andreas and Ronja, a couple from abroad, exchanged vows at the city’s Erimoupolis beach, underscoring the city’s growing reputation as a wedding destination. The couple, who first met in Sitia seven years ago, decided to return to the Greek destination to get married. “More and more individuals are discovering the allure of Sitia for their matrimonial ceremonies, immersing themselves in the romantic legend of Erotokritos and Aretousa,” said Limperiou. The combination of exceptional weather, natural beauty, and exquisite gastronomy positions Crete as a top destination for couples considering marriage abroad. As a result, the municipality’s efforts are directed towards establishing Sitia in the international wedding tourism market. Last year, the Municipality of Hersonissos also prioritized the promotion of this form of tourism through a campaign showcasing its unique offerings for couples seeking to tie the knot in Greece.
