INSETE: European Travelers Eyeing Greece This Summer

Travelers from Europe have Greece high on their wish lists this summer, according to data released this week by INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body.

Based on study findings, Greece is ranked 5th by travelers from Germany, France, and the UK, and 7th for Spaniards planning their holidays in the next 12 months.

Other key takeaways of the INSETE study include:

– 70 percent of Germans, Brits and Spaniards and 60 percent of the French are planning trips in the next 12 months

– Germany, France, the UK, and Spain are key source markets for Greece generating 40 percent of all inbound-tourism related revenues

– most travelers are planning trips to short-haul destinations (under three hours)

– the number of travelers intending to spend more than usual on travel this year is up – 31 percent of Germans, 29 percent of the French, 29 percent of the Brits, and 36 percent of the Spaniards

– reasons for travel include leisure and relaxation for 56 percent of travelers from Germany, 55 percent from France, 71 percent from the UK, and 58 percent from Spain. Next in line is culture or adventure experiences

– top holiday styles include sea and sun (51 percent Germany, 31 percent France, 40 percent UK, 24 percent Spain), city breaks (41 percent Germany, 31 percent France, 38 percent UK, and 29 percent Spain), nature travel, culture travel, visiting friends or relatives, and hiking.
