Greece’s appeal as a film destination will take center stage through the National Center of Audiovisual Media and Communication’s (EKOME) participation in the upcoming 77th Cannes International Film Festival in France.

The annual film festival held in Cannes will open its doors on Tuesday.

During the festival, EKOME will aim to spotlight Greece as a top global destination for audiovisual production. Attending Greek film professionals will use the opportunity to showcase the country’s advantages to foreign companies and industry insiders.

Cash rebate and tax relief

At the Greek stand, manned by EKOME, the Greek Film Center, and the Thessaloniki Film Festival, foreign film producers will have the opportunity to learn about Greece’s advantages as a filming location. This will include information on the country’s two incentives that aim to attract investments in the field of audiovisual production: the 40% cash rebate program for audiovisual works production and the 30% tax relief for TV and film projects. The tax relief incentive can operate in addition to the cash rebate or separately.

Greek movies in the Cannes Festival

At the Cannes Film Festival, two Greek films supported by the Greek cash rebate program and EKOME, will be showcased. “Kinds of Kindness”, directed by renowned Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, will compete for the prestigious Palme d’Or, while “Kyuka: Before Summer’s End”, directed by Costis Charamountanis, will also be featured.

“In a promising era for Greek cinematography and the audiovisual sector, EKOME remains dedicated to its outward-facing initiatives, with the goal of solidifying Greece’s position on the global map of the audiovisual industry,” an announcement by EKOME said.

The Cannes International Film Festival will run from May 14 to 25. Over the course of 12 days, over 35,000 festival goers from 160 countries are expected to attend screenings and walk the aisles of the Marché du Film.
