As part of ongoing efforts to promote Greece’s wines and wineries, Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni outlined a set of priorities during the first meeting of the country’s Wine Tourism Council this week.

Among others, Kefalogianni underlined the importance of public-private partnerships and the exchange of know-how that will with coordinated efforts establish Greece as a wine tourism destination in the years to come.

The newly set up Wine Tourism Council will be responsible for the development and promotion of the wine tourism segment on the back of several ministry initiatives to tap into the potential of wine tourism. Indicatively, last year, Greece was ranked among the Top 10 best countries for wine lovers.

Among others, the ministry has already launched the Visitable Winery label and network which have paved the way for tourist visits to select wineries across the country that offer tastings, tours, and workshops.

Among others, Kefalogianni said the development of the wine tourism segment was directly related to the ministry’s focus on diversifying the tourist product towards sustainability-centered activities.

“Wine tourism can be developed in all of the country’s regions and attract travelers all year long. The segment brings together primary production with hospitality and F&B, and creates new products such as guided tours at winemaking facilities and vineyards,” she said.
