This positive trend persisted in February and March, with international passenger traffic increasing by 21.6 percent and 23.6 percent, respectively. Athens Airport’s remarkable performance continued in April, with passenger traffic soaring by 16.3 percent compared to April 2023, reaching 2.49 million. International passengers totaled 1.79 million, marking a 21.7 percent increase from last year, while domestic passengers reached 688 thousand, up by 4.1 percent compared to the previous year. Overall, during the first four months of the year, the airport’s traffic reached 7.7 million passengers, marking a 16.5 percent increase. Analytically, domestic and international passengers exceeded the 2023 levels by 8.4 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively. Flights in April Athens Airport recorded a total of 67,447 flights during the January-April 2024 period, representing a 13.5 percent increase from 2023 levels. Both domestic and international flights saw an increase, with volumes surpassing 2023 levels by 5.9 percent and 19.3 percent, respectively The April data follows the revised passenger traffic forecasts for 2024, as announced by the airport’s CEO, Yiannis Paraschis, during the first regular AIA general meeting following the airport’s listing. In light of the airport’s strong performance in Q3, with a notable 16.5 percent increase, Paraschis has revised the forecast for the overall year upwards, surpassing 30 million passengers. If achieved, this milestone would mark a new record year for Athens Airport.
