As part of its strategy to promote Greece, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) announced this week that its 12-month partnership with Crete-based airline SKY express had produced “impressive” results.

The two parties worked together on marketing and promotional initiatives which reached more than 20 million consumers across Europe in the runup to the launch of the peak summer season.

GNTO and SKY express ran six campaigns as part of efforts to reach out to target markets and introduce lesser-known Greek destinations and experiences to the public.

The goal of the agreement, according to the GNTO, is to extend the tourist season and to primarily achieve the spread of tourist numbers across the year while strengthening winter tourism to new destinations.

Eleni Mitraki, Head of Tourism Promotion Department of the GNTO; Markos Markakis, Digital Marketing & Sales Manager of SKY express; Gerasimos Skaltsas, Chief Commercial Officer of SKY express; Dimitris Fragakis, Secretary General of the GNTO; and Angela Gerekou, President of the GNTO.

Indicative results of the campaigns include a 74 percent year-on-year rise in demand during winter 2023 among five main target markets – France, Italy, Germany, Belgium and Great Britain. A 73 percent year-on-year rise in demand from the five markets was also recorded in the summer of 2023.

Collaborations are a basic condition for the development of Greek tourism. That is why in recent years we have been implementing a broad co-advertising program with airlines in Greece and abroad,” said GNTO General Secretary Dimitris Fragakis.

SKY express flies all year round to the largest network of domestic destinations, to 33 airports and carries out scheduled flights to 15 destinations in Europe.

“The GNTO and SKY express are again this year fellow travelers in the national effort to establish the country as the ultimate year-round destination,” SKY express Chief Commercial Officer Gerasimos Skaltsas said, adding that the company would continue all efforts to promote Greece throughout the year.

“We are firmly committed to this goal which we serve in turn promotion initiatives and strategies,” Skaltsas said.

In 2023, SKY express carried approximately 4.3 million passengers.
