The Greek city of Ioannina in Epirus has been selected as the shooting location for a new Bollywood movie.

Ioannina’s unique atmosphere and vibrant community won over producers from India, who have already started filming in the city and throughout the region.

“This city offers exactly what we are looking for in these shoots,” said the film’s production manager, Sunny Pariani, who also runs the company The Greek Life Inc, specializing in Destination Management Services.

“We’re excited to showcase the vibrant aesthetics, history, natural beauty, and cultural heritage of Ioannina and the prefecture to a wider audience,” Pariani said.

Local stakeholders are hoping the production will lead to increased tourist interest, bringing significant benefits to the local economy and residents.

According to Ioannina Deputy Mayor Christos Tatsis, the city hadn’t developed close ties with India in recent years, but the choice of Ioannina as a shooting location for a Bollywood film opens a channel of communication that can be leveraged for tourism and cultural promotion.

“Ioannina, with its rich tradition, its incomparable natural landscape, and the comforts it offers as a modern destination, is the ideal combination for hosting television and film casts, providing the right working conditions for a perfect result,” said Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begkas.

Local professionals, Ioannina Airport, and the intercity bus service (KTEL) assisted with the production of the film, which will continue shooting until late June.

Although the title has yet to be revealed, the film is expected to air on the US streaming platform Netflix once completed.
