Addressing the event in Athens, which was also attended by Deputy Culture Minister Christos Dimas, Kefalogianni said that creating and promoting city districts’ cultural offerings can create these “sought after experiences” and bring people together. Restaurants, art galleries, and retail stores that cater to residents and visitors, create jobs, stimulate investment activity, and generate revenues which in turn lead to urban regeneration, she said. “In a world often polarized and divided, areas of cultural activity strengthen social unity and cohesion, and contribute to the development of local economies,” Kefalogianni said, stressing that the ministry prioritizes the “interconnection between tourism and culture” in its strategy.
