From May 28 to September 8, the exhibition will be hosted in the museum’s halls under the auspices of the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). Entitled “Χαίρε Ξένε. In the land of dreams”, the exhibition comprises 100 photographs that provide a historical glimpse into Greece’s post-World War II era. The photographs depict the people of the time and their everyday lives, as well as the beautiful landscapes of Greece, highlighting the importance of preserving the country’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. Since 1950, he has captured the country, its archaeological sites, and its people engaged in various activities, particularly focusing on the Greek islands before they became tourist destinations. “Greece has been a wonderful friend to me,” McCabe said during his speech at the exhibition’s opening event. “I am grateful for the opportunity to share some of my discoveries through my photographs with you.” American photographer Robert McCabe. Photo source: Tourism Ministry McCabe’s photography uniquely showcases life in Greece from previous decades, while his travel experiences have been featured in several books he has published, focusing on Greek destinations such as Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini. For his contribution to the promotion of Greece, the Greek State awarded McCabe Greek citizenship in 2020, honoring him for his valuable work. Photo source: Tourism Ministry According to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni, the idea for the exhibition stemmed from the ministry’s new vision to promote respect for people, traditions, and Greek values as main features of Greek tourism. “Robert McCabe’s photography exhibition is dedicated to preserving the authenticity, identity, natural environment, and rich cultural heritage of our country, in full alignment with our vision for sustainable tourism that embodies the values of Greece,” the minister said during her speech at the exhibition’s opening event. Kefalogianni along Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni also gave a tour of the Robert McCabe photo exhibition to Princess Kako of Akishino since the exhibition will travel to Japan in the fall.
