The introduction of telemedicine to many remote Greek islands has helped further develop tourism, said Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni during the 2nd Panhellenic Digital Applications Conference held in Monemvasia, Peloponnese, last week.

“The provision of medical care remotely is not just a luxury but an essential need, especially for the remote areas of Greece,” said Kefalogianni addressing the event, which was organized by the Hellenic Society of Digital Medicine.

The minister went on to add that telemedicine contributes to the development of tourism enabling travelers to visit areas where access to medical services may be limited while ensuring immediate medical advice which may even include a diagnosis. “So they can feel safe and secure, which are important factors in choosing a destination,” she said.

Telemedicine and improved technologies can also contribute to establishing Greece as a top medical tourism destination, attracting visitors from all over the world who are seeking high quality medical services combined with recreation and leisure in a safe and secure environment.
