SKY express recently launched a significant initiative to extend Greece’s tourism season and reduce seasonality, starting with Crete.

Specifically, the airline will maintain two weekly direct flights from Paris to Heraklion until the end of November.

The initiative is part of the Greek airline’s strategy and commitment to support national efforts to enhance the tourism season, extending into the winter months across more destinations in the country.

By starting with Heraklion, the airline promotes one of Greece’s most popular destinations to the French public.

“With this initiative, SKY express contributes to achieving a central national goal in tourism: the expansion of the tourist season,” said SKY express Chief Commercial Officer Gerasimos Skaltsas, adding that the pilot action is expected to yield significant benefits and can be expanded further throughout Crete and other regions of the country.

Following the expansion of the Paris-Heraklion seasonal flight, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) expressed its support for the airline’s initiative, as extending the tourist season is a key priority for the organization.

“The action of the Greek airline could significantly increase traffic from the French market to Greece, particularly to Crete, and help strengthen the income of the local community by extending the season by one month,” said GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis.

Aiming to promote the country’s tourism product to international markets, GNTO and SKY express ran six campaigns introducing lesser-known Greek destinations and experiences to the public.

“Through such actions and in cooperation with local communities, we can collectively create conditions for year-round tourism, which is our ultimate goal,” Fragakis added.

Recently, SKY express and the GNTO marked the completion of their successful 2023 collaboration in promoting Greece abroad by presenting the results of their annual co-promotion program, which reached over 20 million tourists across Europe with advertisements showcasing the Greek tourist product.
