Marathas beach is one of the 625 in Greece to receive a Blue Flag this year. Skiathos Palace, committed to environmental protection and sustainability, participates voluntarily in domestic and international sustainable tourism programs, claiming top distinctions and awards for its actions. As a result of its commitment, the hotel’s beach has clinched a Blue Flag for the 14th consecutive year, making it the only private beach on the island to receive this distinction. “The award for Maratha beach each summer reflects the hotel’s continuous efforts to provide top-notch services to its guests, ensure excellent quality bathing water, and protect the surrounding marine and terrestrial ecosystems,” the hotel’s management said. Additionally, Skiathos Palace recently cleaned the seabed in cooperation with the Halkida Diving Center “Deep Blue”, ensuring the purity of the water. For this project, experienced divers, along with the local coast guard, collected litter and other objects from the seabed, protecting the marine environment. “We are constantly demonstrating our respect and protection of the environment through more actions, with environmental awareness that is integral to the operation of Skiathos Palace,” the hotel’s management added. Since 2015, the hotel has consistently received the gold award from the Travelife international program and has participated in environmental initiatives such as the Green Key and Blue Flag for 14 years. In addition, Skiathos Palace has been operating under a certified Environmental Management System based on the international standard ISO 14001 since 2009. “Skiathos Palace invests in sustainable tourism through ‘green’ initiatives with consistency, responsibility, and proven results,” the hotel’s management said. Owned by the Derveni family, Skiathos Palace is located in Koukounaries on Skiathos, nestled in a pine forest at the north-west corner of the island. The hotel boasts 249 rooms and 9 suites overlooking the Aegean Sea.
