Greece is gearing up to host the WingFoil Racing World Cup for the first time, attracting renowned athletes from around the world.

The WingFoil Racing World Cup is a prestigious event established by the International Wing Sports Association (IWSA) and led by the Racing Rules of Sailing and the class-specific rules of the WingFoil Open Class. The WingFoil Racing World Cup features a range of competitive events centered around wingfoiling, a water sport that combines aspects of windsurfing, kiteboarding, and stand-up paddleboarding. Participants use a handheld wing to harness the wind’s power while riding a hydrofoil board.

The WingFoil Racing World Cup 2024 will be organized by Kyvernitis Travel Group and the Athens Nautical Club and held during September 10-14 in the Navarino Bay area of Costa Navarino, the sustainably driven destination in the Mediterranean.

“This event guarantees excitement for spectators and athletes alike, offering a unique opportunity to experience the sport up close,” the organizers said in a recent announcement.

During the four-day event, top athletes will compete in a series of races, highlighting skill, speed, and innovation in this emerging water sport. The series will offer a unique blend of excitement and competition, set against a backdrop of various stunning water landscapes.

Winners will claim a prize of 10,000 euros and 300 points in the championship’s world ranking.

According to the organizers, wingfoiling is on the rise, recognized by the International Sailing Federation as a rapidly growing sport. Drawing interest from young athletes worldwide and enthusiasts of other extreme sports like Formula Kite and IQ-Foil, it’s set to captivate audiences with its dynamic energy.
