TUI Group and Dertour have stepped in on behalf of German Travel Protection Fund DRSF to support customers of FTI Touristik, the tour operator which declared bankruptcy earlier this week.

The two groups will provide support to FTI travelers in 13 destinations including Greece. The goal, they said, is to ensure customers complete their holidays unaffected and without disruptions.

TUI is responsible for FTI customers in Greece, the Balearics, Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic while Dertour is covering travelers in Turkey, Egypt, Thailand, Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, and the Canary Islands.

“Our entire senior leadership team is currently exploring avenues to assist our hotel partners and those travelers who had a summer holiday planned with FTI,” TUI Group CEO Sebastian Ebel said in an announcement.

FTI customers who have no representative will be informed of changes via text message and provided with new contact info.

Earlier this week, FTI Touristik sent hotel partners a letter informing that guests booked at partner hotels as part of a travel package would be covered by DRSF.

According to rough estimates, there are currently 7,500 FTI customers holidaying in approximately 250 hotels in Greece, the majority on Crete and Rhodes, 20 percent on Corfu and Kos, and the remaining 10 percent at other Greek destinations.

DRSF is moving forward with the insolvency process, which includes refunding the travel price paid by affected customers and arranging necessary repatriation of visitors. For more info go here.
