Developing wine and religious tourism products topped the agenda of talks between Kefalonia stakeholders and Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni. During her visit to Kefalonia as part of a wider tour of the Ionian Islands Region, Kefalogianni met with local government and tourism professionals to discuss challenges and ways of cooperation. Among others, Kefalogianni referred to ministry efforts to ensure balanced tourism development that focuses on sustainability and highlights the comparative advantages of each region. Tourism Secretary General, Myron Flouris; Regional Governor of the Ionian Islands, Giannis Trepeklis; Greek Tourism Minister, Olga Kefalogianni; and Kefalonia Member of Parliament for New Democracy party, Panagis Kappatos. Among others, she referred to Kefalonia’s vast potential in the development of wine and religious tourism as well as alternative forms of tourism including yachting, diving, fishing, and cultural tourism. “Together, we can showcase Kefalonia’s exceptional natural offerings, the very important cultural capital, the great religious monuments, but also the mountainous landscape, the caves, the picturesque settlements, the special culinary tradition, the local products of excellent quality,” she said. Tourism Minister, Olga Kefalogianni during a meeting with the local authorities. The minister went on to add that the goal is to “enrich the tourist offer and achieve stronger visitor flows throughout the year, and in all of the country’s regions. Success in tourism only comes through partnerships. Whatever initiatives we undertake, we want your opinion so that we can take it into account in our planning.” Lastly, Kefalogianni said that together with the regional authority, the ministry would be looking into ways to effectively manage water resources.
