Airbnb: Pride Month Boosts Bookings in Athens and Thessaloniki

Pride events are attracting travelers to Greece this month with Athens Pride parade starting from Syntagma on Saturday and Europride kicking offer a week later in Thessaloniki.

According to Airbnb booking data, millennials are picking Athens for Pride this year and GenZs are headed to Thessaloniki.

More specifically, Athens is 9th among the Top 10 most booked international Pride destinations for millennials this year with Taipei, Rio de Janeiro, and Bogota in the Top 3 spots. Next up are Hong Kong, Berlin, Oslo, Montreal, Naples, Athens, and Santiago (Chile).

Millennials continue to lead bookings to traditional Pride celebration destinations, found the Airbnb report, adding that the segment maintains a strong presence and celebrates in “familiar spaces”.

For GenZs, the Top 10 most booked international Pride destinations are San Jose in Costa Rica, Lima (Peru), Prague, Bogotá, Madrid, London, Manchester, Cologne, Berlin, and Thessaloniki, which ranks 10th on the list.

Gen Z travelers appear to be exploring newer Pride celebrations.

Top-rated LGBTQ-friendly cities based on Airbnb guest reviews are Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), Madrid, New York City, Paris, San Diego, Chicago, Wilton Manors (Florida), Toronto, Seattle, and London.

The annual Athens Pride parade and events kick off on Saturday (June 14) from Syntagma Square.

Thessaloniki is ready to host the first EuroPride to be held in Greece, on June 21- 29 with more than 40,000 visitors expected. This year’s motto is “Perseverance – Progress – Prosperity”.
