Among others, Airbnb has committed to cooperating with authorities to create smart local regulations that align with EU guidelines, supporting targeted policies that address local issues without affecting everyday home sharers. This includes sharing aggregated data to inform policymaking and aiding in enforcement through technical solutions. Additionally, recognizing the long-term housing problem, Airbnb said it will carry out research to understand the impact of short-term rentals and collaborate on solutions. The platform also said it would be promoting travel to lesser-known destinations as part of efforts to ease overtourism. The home-sharing sharing giant said that it has advocated a unified EU approach to streamline regulations across member states. The goal is to ensure these new rules benefit all stakeholders, it said. The new EU-wide regulations provide clear directives for data sharing between platforms and authorities and simplify registration procedures for hosts with local governments. They represent a new chapter for short-term rentals in Europe. The 24-month transition period is an opportunity for platforms and authorities to plan for data sharing, implement proportionate local regulations, and foster a sustainable tourism future.
