According to local authorities, the pilot implementation of this new network is funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) and includes the supply and installation of 45 electric bicycles designed for public use. The project also features seven automated bicycle rental stations, 48 electronic bicycle insurance points, and the necessary software for controlling and invoicing the system. The use of these bicycles will help reduce car traffic in Alexandroupolis, promote alternative public transport options, ease traffic congestion, and decrease environmental pollution and noise, officials stated.
