AIA - Athens Airport Updates Greek Airports Welcome 13% Increase in 5-month Arrivals by GTP editing team 20 June 2024 written by GTP editing team 20 June 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 28 Photo © Greek Travel Pages Passenger traffic through Greece’s airports marked a 13 percent rise in the first five months of the year compared to the same period a year ago, according to data released this week by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA). The number of arrivals in the January-May 2024 period came to 20,419,817 compared to 18,064,868 in the same five months a year ago. The data concerns all of the country’s airports: Athens International Airport (AIA), the 24 regional airports managed by the HCAA, and the 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece. Arrivals and departures at the 24 HCAA-run airports marked a 14 percent rise reaching in May 1,217,929 up from 1,068,460 in the same month in 2023. The number of flights handled by the country’s 39 airports in the January-May period came to 166,796 up from 154,218 in the year-ago period and marking an 8.2 percent rise. Traffic through the country’s 14 regional airports run by Fraport Greece, rose to 3.6 million passengers in the period under review up by 11.3 percent against 2023. International arrivals were up by 11.6 percent and domestic traffic by 10.2 percent over May 2023. AIA traffic in the first five months of 2024, came to 10.71 million, up by 17 percent over 2023. Domestic and international passengers surpassed the 2023 levels by 9 percent and 20.8 percent, respectively. During May, Athens Airport’s passenger traffic amounted to 3.01 million, marking an 18.5 percent rise over May 2023. Domestic and international passengers surpassed the 2023 levels by 10.6 percent and 22.3 percent, respectively.
