More specifically, Athens ranks 9th among the Top 10 international destinations mentioned by US travelers for the long Independence Day weekend from July 3 to July 7. The top destination for US travelers for the 4th of July holiday is Vancouver in Canada, followed by London (UK) and Rome (Italy) in third spot. Completing the list are Dublin (Ireland), Paris (France), Calgary (Canada), Amsterdam (Netherlands), Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), Athens (Greece), and Barcelona (Spain). Meanwhile, according to insurance providers Allianz Partners, the number of Americans traveling to Europe is expected to surge this summer, increasing by 34 percent over last year with Athens among the Top 10 destinations of choice. The AAA report goes on to reveal that air travel is expected to reach new highs this year. Indicatively, the number of travelers from the US heading abroad during the holiday is set to reach 5.74 million up by nearly 7 percent compared to last year and by 12 percent over pre-pandemic 2019. Seven out of 10 are picking destinations in Europe with interest peaking for historic European cities and beaches.
