Surveys, Trends & Stats Greece Eyeing US, Australia, and Canada Markets for Long-haul Tourism by GTP editing team 21 June 2024 written by GTP editing team 21 June 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 18 The US, Australia, and Canada are the most promising long-haul markets set to boost incoming arrivals to Greece in the coming 12 months, according to the latest report released by INSETE, the Greek Tourism Confederation’s (SETE) research body. According to the data collected by GlobalWebIndex (GWI) online in the first two months of 2024, travelers from the three non-European markets above are more likely to select Greece for their holidays as are those in China and India. Indicatively, in 2019 and in 2023, long-haul tourists accounted for 11 percent of total inbound tourism-related revenues. The long-haul markets under review ranked Greece among the Top 15 destinations of choice for overseas travel. Australians ranked Greece 10th, Canada (11th), and US (12th). In China and India, Greece is in the 33rd and 39th spots, respectively. Photo source: Athens Attica The study goes on to find that in the next 12 months, 57 percent of Americans plan to travel abroad, 71 percent of Canadians, 63 percent of Chinese, 71 percent of Indians, and 68 percent of Australians. Other key takeaways of the study include: – a growing interest among Americans, Canadians, Chinese, Indians and Australians in sightseeing and nature experiences in addition to sea and sun – the majority travels for leisure and relaxation – long-haul travelers prefer longer trips with one in three travelers from the US (34 percent) taking a seven-day or longer trip, 43 percent of Canadians and 62 percent of Australians – those planning trips abroad in the next 12 months mainly in the US, Canada and Australia plan to spend more on their holidays – estimated spending including accommodation and taxes per night per person comes to around 110 dollars for 25 percent of Americans, 29 percent of Canadians, 33 percent of Australians, and 55 percent of the Chinese.
