The benefits that film tourism can bring to local communities and destinations in terms of promotion will be the focus of an event on June 25 in Larissa, Thessaly.

Organized by the International Film Festival of Larissa (IFFL), the event will take place at the Joist Innovation Center at 7 PM, and admission is free for all.

During the event, well-known filmmakers, industry experts, and travel enthusiasts will gather to unveil the hidden aspects of film tourism through their experiences, inviting the audience to explore the world of film creation.

More specifically, the event will introduce the latest trends and case studies in film tourism, featuring destinations from around the world that have been captured on the big screen.

From iconic film locations to behind-the-scenes stories, attendees will gain insights into how film tourism can boost local economies, promote cultural heritage and natural wealth, and create unforgettable experiences for fans.

Additionally, film professionals will shed light on the factors that attract major audiovisual productions and the crucial role local authorities play in this process.

According to the organizers of the IFFL, it is essential to create a clear strategy that highlights the unique locations and attractions of each destination. This strategy may include developing a film commission or department that offers incentives, such as tax credits, subsidies, and licenses, to attract producers.

Additionally, showcasing each location’s diverse landscapes, architecture, and culture through targeted marketing campaigns, social media, and industry events can help raise awareness.

The event, organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), and the Region of Thessaly, precedes the IFFL 2024, which will take place from November 18-24 in Larissa and showcase the beauties of Thessaly while addressing various issues through a cinematic approach.
