The NJV Athens Plaza Hotel, located in the heart of Athens, recently became the first city accommodation in Greece to achieve high-level GSTC certification from RoyalCert, a GSTC-accredited certification body. The certification is based on the globally recognized GSTC Hotel Criteria for sustainable tourism. By achieving this certification, the hotel reaffirms its commitment to protecting the environment, supporting the local community, and providing sustainable experiences for its guests while continuously improving its sustainability efforts. “This certification is proof to our long-standing commitment to sustainable tourism,” said Vana Lazarakou, the general manager of the hotel. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) manages the GSTC Criteria, which are the global standards for sustainable travel and tourism, and provides international accreditation for sustainable tourism certification bodies. Accredited means that a Certification Body (CB) has been verified through a rigorous external review from an accreditation body whereby the GSTC provides assurance that the CB awards certification to businesses according to processes that comply with international standards and good practices. With GSTC certification, the NJV Athens Plaza joins an elite group of hotels worldwide that prioritize sustainability and meet the requirements of the upcoming European ‘Green Claims’ legislation. RoyalCert provides this certification only through a third-party audit. “We are confident that the example set by NJV Athens Plaza will be followed by many others, contributing to the transition towards a sustainable future for Greek tourism,” stated Dr. Ioannis Pappas, GSTC’s Mediterranean Director. Located in Syntagma Square since 1980, the NJV Athens Plaza offers a luxurious accommodation experience for travelers seeking comfort, excellent facilities, and environmental responsibility. Featuring 159 rooms and 21 suites, the hotel is part of the Vardinoyannis Group and a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts.
